Satisfied to be sitting at No. 3 in the early-season provincial AAAA high school girls volleyball rankings, coach Tony Sodaro and his Kelowna Owls provided plenty of evidence why they won’t be in that position very long. Not the least of the reasons were seven consecutive victories, including a 2-1 (23-25, 25-20, 15-11) triumph over the No. 6-ranked Handsworth Royals of North Vancouver in the UBC Okanagan Heat’s high school tournament final on Saturday. Although losing only their second of 16 sets on the weekend to open the match against a quick and athletic Handsworth team, the Owls showed their ability to dig deep and take control to secure the gold medal. |
